I started training under Kru Mehdi at the age of 17, where I initially began practicing Muay Thai for general fitness and self-defence.

Fifteen years later, I’m now teaching and competing.

Muay Thai has taught me many practical skills, but most importantly it’s been a consistent path towards mental and physical self-improvement. Not just in class, but for life in general, teaching me humility, discipline, respect, confidence in oneself and striving for constant self-improvement. It has helped me see where my strengths and weaknesses lie, and how I can improve them both inside and outside the ring.

Muay Thai is a constant journey. There’s always something new to learn, a goal to work towards or an obstacle to overcome.”

Ian

Growing up on the North Shore, I started training Muay Thai when I was 14 years old, and have now been practicing Muay for over 10 years.

I’ve been a certified Muay Thai instructor through Kru Mehdi Pouroskoui for 5 years.

Muay Thai has helped keep me in shape, given me confidence, and given me a healthy and positive outlet.

I like to make the classes I teach physically challenging with a focus on technique and body weight exercises. I believe being able to move your own body efficiently is an important skill to possess that is often overlooked.

When not doing Muay Thai I like to also stay active by lifting weights, biking, hunting and hiking.

Jessica

Luther

Luther joined the KB-One Martial Arts gym in 2021, is a certified Muay Thai Instructor under Kru Mehdi Pouroskoui as of 2023, and is also a CanFit Pro certified Instructor. 

Their athletic beginnings were primarily in team sports - they have played competitive soccer and basketball throughout their teens and adulthood. Luther began weightlifting 12 years ago, with the goal of increasing strength and power which has allowed them to translate it to improving team athletes of various disciplines in strength and agility. They have coached soccer teams and basketball teams in the past and love putting their team through agonizing ladder and sprint drills. Luther’s dance background also lends itself to the necessary element of flexibility training in Muay Thai.

Lara

Tara started her martial arts journey in 2010 with Taekwondo, in which she went on to receive her 3rd Dan black belt.

She started Muay Thai at KB-One in 2020 and received her Muay Thai instructor certification from Kru Mehdi in 2021. Since then, she has been teaching Muay Thai in the youth and adult classes and is looking forward to seeing you in the gym!
